Welcome.

Matto Oberski is a nonbinary photographer and visual artist currently living and working in Ferndale, Michigan. They received their Bachelor of Arts degree from Grand Valley State University in 2015 with an emphasis in Photography. Their work strives to represent the more difficult aspects of the human condition in this increasingly digital world, often utilizing both digital and analog photography and experimenting with alternative processes and heavy digital manipulation. Their most recent series present gritty simulacra of isolation, identity, fear, and loss through a glitched lens.

Matto has had their work featured in exhibitions and publications internationally, including Macabre at Grand Rapids' Urban Institute for Contemporary Art, and most recently Digital Penance, a collaborative exhibition with local artist Kyle Brand at The Division Avenue Arts Collective. Their commercial work includes live music, portraiture, and food photography. Printed work includes monograph New Prisons and a limited-edition zine of select images from Digital Penance. When not out photographing, you can find them cooking, playing Magic: the Gathering, or lost among the multitude of books they need to finish reading.
